The Lucky Star blocks

I am whittling away on my list of projects that I need to complete to take to the quilt retreat. Next on the list were to sew three Lucky Star blocks in red/white/blue.

A pile of quilts is stored at Sarah's house for when one of us hears of a need of a quilt. Some of these quilts have gone to returning soldiers as a thank-you for their service. Some have gone to families who have lost their homes because of fires or to individuals battling sickness. It's always sad to see an email from a member requesting a quilt because it means someone is going through a difficult time. What better way to reach out to them than with a hug in the form of a quilt.

Some of these quilts are made from blocks that are donated to our group, and some are made from blocks left over from our own projects. Most of the quilts are made with the Lucky Star block. A few years ago we started making quilts from this Atkinson pattern. It's a good one because there is no need for additional border fabrics as the block already has a border. It has been suggested that we try using a different block, so we are auditioning a new one. It doesn't matter to me what block we use; it's just nice to be a part of a group that considers charity quilts something we need to do.

That's such a wonderful idea, Mary, to send quilts to those in need.
I love the Lucky Star and red/white & blue is the best!

We have a star block that we use for our charity quilts. It is so much fun to work on our blocks!

Love your block - it is very pretty.

Our group in France made 'Wonky star' blocks last year for the survivors of the terrible Australian fires. It was a fun block to do.

Charity quilts are the most special. While Dad was in the nursing home, a former neighbor crocheted blankets for all the residents every year. Very special. They are greatly appreciated, and thanks for all the work you do to make people feel loved, Mary. Gorgeous work!

Very thoughtful of your group to donate quilts and I know it makes an impact on the giver as well as the receiver! I like the quilt you are showing us, very Americana! Enjoy the Fall weather!
