Another cookbook added to the collection

Now that the girls are married and out of the house, I cook differently for Larry and me. I thought my days of collecting cookbooks were over until I saw this one. I bought it and I think it's a winner. Jenny made the cole slaw for our Memorial Day weekend picnic, and it was very good. Here's the recipe:

CRUNCHY SLAW
1 head green cabbage finely chopped
3 green onions finely chopped
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1/2 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup butter
2 3-ounce packages ramen noodles, flavor packets discarded

DRESSING
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Mix cabbage and onions in large bowl. In a small saucepan over medium heat, brown the almonds and sesame seeds in the butter.

Combine the dressing ingredients in a small bowl and stir well. Just before serving, add the sesame seeds, almonds, and crushed raw ramen nooldes to the cabble and green onions. Pour the dressing a little at a time over the salad mix, then toss.

This blog will not become a Julie/Julia thing where I work my way through this cookbook. But I will let you know now and then what I've found out about this book. There are a lot of good recipes in this one.

Hey! I want this cookbook! I loved her first one. Have you read that one? It's great too. I'll have to look at this one when I come home for a visit.

I always love seeing new cookbooks. I've got over 200 of them, but with the kids at home still I can't cook out of them as much as I would like. They like the old standbys. I'm going to have to take a look at this book.

That's good slaw! I had that yesterday at a small deli in a nearby town here and YUM! I want this cookbook, too. It looks like good cooking with simple ingredients. Thanks for the recommendation!

My stepmom makes a similar slaw. She actually got the recipe from an Amish family when they vacationed there last year. We've had it at many family functions since then. The dressing is refreshing and a nice change from the mayo dressings normally on slaw.
I'll have to keep my eyes open for this book.

Wow! That sounds good! I've seen her promo. Brin just bought Ree Drummond's cookbook that I read through one evening. Good entertainment.

So looking forward to giving the recipe a try. My husband loves coleslaw but is very picky about how it's prepared so I'll have to see what the fine connoisseur of coleslaw thinks! :)

I think this cookbook was featured on "The View." The cohosts raved about the hot corn dip. Let us know if you`try it.

I saw this one at Sam's (I think). I thought about buying it, but like you... I think I'm done buying cookbooks. I collect Gooseberry Patch and have 32 of them so I really don't need anymore... unless they are GBP. Hee hee... I'm addicted to them!
