Tweaking

My sewing weekend with cousins Audrey and Cathy is coming up in two weeks. Audrey has cut 30's fabric for a quilt, and Cathy is deciding what projects to bring. Me? I'm more worried about how the house is going to look!

This morning I worked on this cabinet. Larry's dad owned it years ago; it was originally a bookcase. He wasn't much of a reader, so he turned it into a gun cabinet. Before he passed away, he told Larry he could have it. It stayed in our garage for a while until Larry decided to put shelves in it again. He brought it into our dining room, and it didn't take long to fill it with stuff.

I grew up going to antique auctions with my folks. I hated going to those! And the things they brought home! Saturday mornings were spent cleaning, and how I hated to dust those antiques. I swore I wouldn't have one old piece in my house.

But things change, and now I love every piece I have. I have filled this cabinet with mostly white ironstone and some pink depression pieces. Do you recognize these towels? They are Martha Stewart from Kmart that Audrey picked up for me. I've had them in a drawer for a couple years just waiting for a good idea to use them. I couldn't see getting them stained up in the kitchen. So this morning I pressed them and lined the shelves. I like how they hide the mish-mash of dishes stacked up.

There are a lot of things I need to do before the sewing weekend, and tweaking should be the last of my worries. My goal is to have everything in place by this time next weekend so I can spend the days before they come just getting my sewing ready.

That turned out just perfect! Hmmm, I wonder if those Martha weekday linens can still be purchased.

Best wishes preparing for your sewing weekend! You're off to a great start! -Tammy

I love what you did with that cabinet! Good job and the nice touch with the towels... too cute!! Your post about sitting with your mom was so sweet. Time is something you'll never get back so spending that time with her, while doing something you like to do, sounds like time well spent. Just wanted to let you know that I am having my first giveaway and your name's already entered once for being a follower - just wanted to let you know. :) Have a good weekend ~

The cabinet is lovely. Don't forget to leave enough time to have a project of your own ready for your sewing weekend.
