Cookies and another giveaway
Thank you to everyone who wished us a happy anniversary! I guess 32 years is a big deal in our society any more. We had a nice dinner out with Jenny, Randy, Julie, and Natalie. Travis was in the barn, and the Canadians weren't home for the weekend. The waitstaff continually pestered us wanting to know if we needed anything or if the meal was good. I'm not used to anyone talking that much to me during a meal :D But the meal was excellent, and we will go back.
Here's a cookie recipe from the early days of our marriage. I think everyone who bakes has made frosted chocolate drop cookies; the addition of a cut marshmallow makes these fun, and helps keep the cookie soft. Hope you enjoy these!
GOBS
1 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 1/3 cups sifted flour
1/4 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
Large marshmallows
Cream shortening and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat well; add vanilla. Sift together dry ingredients and add to shortening mixture alternately with milk. Drop by teaspoonfuls about 2" apart on greased baking sheet. Bake at 350° for about 10 minutes. While they are baking, cut the marshmallows in half. When your remove the cookies from the pan to the cooling rack, place one marshmallow onto hot cookie (cut side down). Let cookies cool completely on rack. Frost with a gob of chocolate frosting on the top of the marshmallow.
Chocolate Frosting
Combine 1/4 cup cocoa, 1/2 cup soft butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 3 cups sifted confectioners sugar. Gradually stir in 1/4 cup hot coffee. Beat until smooth.
And here is a giveaway to look at. Stephanie Reed commented on my blog, so I went over to check hers out. She is an author of Christian books; and Frugal Femina is having a giveaway of two of her books about the Underground Railroad. I'm going to the library today to see if they carry Stephanie's books.

Hello, friend! I just dropped in to tell you how I appreciate your prayers for me and my dear husband.
What a precious anniversary! My husband and I have been married 32 years also. I think I had previously said 31, and what in the world I was thinking I know not!
Nonetheless, it is so wonderful to spend your life with your best friend.
God is so good to us!
Blessings and Love,
Andrea
