When I first saw this quilt on the cover of Fons & Porter's magazine, I wasn't crazy about it. I had a couple emails with Thelma at Cupcakes and Daisies and she mentioned possibly making this quilt herself. That was all I needed; if Thelma thinks a pattern is a good one to make, then I'd better get my fabric ready and join her. Besides, years ago I had bought a piece of red fabric with little watermelon seed print. I remembered buying it to make a watermelon quilt, but for the life of me I couldn't find the pattern in my stash. Ever have this happen to you?
By the time I decided to sew this quilt top, the magazine was sold out in my area. I sent a email to my quilt group, and both NancyP and NancyZ brought their copies to the next meeting. What are friends for?!
I love how this turned out; and once it is quilted, it will be one of my favorite summer quilts.

What a striking quilt, absolutely lovely!
Mary, your watermelon quilt is a stunner! How perfect to showcase this quilt outside, it really fits in with its summer surroundings!
A la Mode took up my whole summer, my watermelon quilt is going to have to wait for next summer! But seeing yours really motivates me to keep it on my To Do list!
Prettier than the picture I say....
I can't decide whether the nine patch blocks or the watermelon blocks are my favorite....This one is a keeper...
I absolutely love it! Watermelons always make me think of you. And cherries. :)
Ahhhhhh...A happy, beautiful and delicious looking quilt...
What a beautiful quilt! I've always wanted to learn to quilt. Is it never too late to learn? :) I'll be fifty this fall...
I remember seeing this in the magazine. It came out wonderful. I wasn't really attracted to it either when I first saw it, but seeing a real finished product does certainly put a spark in me! Love it!
Watermelons don't normally excite me much but this quilt is beautiful. So glad you chose to make it Mary. Love it!
Hugs,
AMY

Mary, It's beautiful! I love the colours and the whimsical feel. Perfect for summer, what a treat!
Oh I just love it! It really is a great design and I love your fabric choices. Did you hand sew or machine sew the seeds? They are so small. I'm guessing they were fused on? Sorry for all the questions. Great job!
Hey Mary! I'm trying to find some time to visit everyone since I've been out of commission for a little bit. LOVE the watermelon quilt! I don't know why you didn't want to do this one; it's awesome! Also, Marla's story is touching, and please let her know that I am equally proud of her strength and tenacity. Have a great weekend, friend!
GORGEOUS!!!!!!! I think you should have a giveaway with that as the prize and pick my name. Sound good?? I don't know why but pictures of watermelons make me so happy, I guess because of summer. GREAT job ~ ♥
Oh, this is a wonderful tribute to summer! "Ode to the Great Red Melon!"

What a sweet quilt, yours is adorable, thank you for sharing the picture with us! It is interesting how a picture of a quilt will grow on us, and when we do decide "we are ready to sew" then we can't seem to locate the pattern...you did good! Have a great weekend, it looks like it is so pretty outside...I need to take a walk down the driveway for my newspaper Blessing sent your way from my part of PA!
Wow...it is beautiful!
Mary, it's beautiful!! That is most definitely a great summer quilt!
I really like the watermelon quilt blocks. Wouldn't mind making one myself.
