I hope I never forget

When Alzheimer's disease is in the family, it's easy to panic when things are forgotten. My doctor told me it's normal to forget things especially since I'm over 50. Just the same, I do worry that someday I will follow my mom and be a victim. After spending the day with Natie and Max yesterday, I realized there are some things I hope I never forget.

1. My dad taking me to a high school talent show when I was in fifth grade. He wore a suit; who knows what I had on. But it was just the two of us; I can't remember any other time the two of us did something special like that.

2. My mom telling my dad I was a finalist in the Cherry Queen contest in my hometown. She didn't know I was listening, but she was excited. I think it meant more to her than it did to me.

3. Larry.

4. Mandy's first day of Master's Commission. She was so excited, but I cried during the entire church service because of this new stage in her life. I was proud of her and knew that great things would happen to her; I just wasn't ready to admit she was ready for life outside our home.

5. The woman of faith Jenny has grown into and how she is molding her life to be more and more like Jesus.

6. The fun mom Julie has become. She doesn't clean house or cook like I do, but she has made being a mom an art I don't think I ever accomplished. I can't even describe what it's like to watch her with Natie and Max.

7. Watching Shane work with his dogs. Even one of our neighbors commented on the skill he has. Knowing that he takes such good care of these three furry people assures me that he has a lot of love in his heart for Mandy as well.

8. The way Randy looked at Jenny on their wedding day. I never saw love in anyone's eyes like I did with Randy. I will always be thankful for that.

9. Travis and the daddy that he is. One evening I had supper ready for him when he came to pick up Natie. She had played with a tiny tea set all afternoon; and while he sat at the table eating his supper, she poured him tea. I watched him pick up that little cup with his big farmer hands and drink the tea. She said "this is the best tea party I ever had." I loved that he was so patient with her and participated.

10. Natie and Max. Any gramma can bore you with the stories of her little people, and I'm no different. I wish I could remember every tiny detail about them.

I have a good life.

What a beautiful post Mary, and a good reminder that it is the simple day to day events in our lives, that are the most important.
