One of my favorite aunts, one of Mom's younger sisters, passed away this weekend. She hadn't been well for quite a while, so it has been expected.
When I was still living at home, it was always exciting when the aunts, uncles, and cousins from out of town came back to Grandpa and Gramma's farm for a visit. And especially so when Jim and Muriel came to town with their family. They were the silliest couple and always so much fun to be around. Their dry wit and colorful way of telling stories always meant we were in for a good time. They were a perfect compliment to each other.
I talked on the phone with my aunt a few months ago. Even though she was very sick, she shared with me a trick she had just played on her husband Jim a few days ago. Those two just never let up it seemed.
Last night the undertaker came to the house to remove the body. When he went to drive away, his car wouldn't start. He couldn't understand it as the car had been running fine. But the family knew what was going on. Muriel had one last trick to pull, and it was on that car.
Cherish your family and hold them close.

Ah, I'm so sad to see that she has passed. I always loved her - she was so funny! One more trick up her sleeve, what a funny woman. :) Will be calling today! So stand by your phone! Love you!
Hi Mary, sorry about the death of your aunt. I'm sure she will be missed so much..... humor is a great gift.
Don't you just love having at least family member that is the life of the party. As long as you remember her that way, you will never miss her, she be'll right there in your heart ...and your funny bone!
Sorry to hear of your loss...She must have been a great lady with a great sense of humor.
Mary, I am so sorry to read of your sweet aunt passing, please cherish the memories! Her legacy to you is to remember the good times and the laughter, hold them close. I had an Aunt and Uncle that gave me the same type of memories, I still think of them with a smile, they were poor financially but huge in love and good memories...thats what counts! Know that my thoughts are with you, sending prayers and hugs!
I am so sorry for your loss...but I am so glad to hear she left lots of wonderful memories in her lifetime! :)
And say a prayer for Debbie, Nate, Jennifer and Bradley. We will all miss Aunt Muriel. What a nice post, Mary.
I just ran across this little quote that is so appropriate for (I'm sure) all families...
Families are like fudge,
mostly sweet with a few nuts.
It was a sad day when my favoite Auntie left us. My Mom had 4 sisters and all were sweet but Aunt Jean was my "hero". She was a teacher... and I wanted to and did become a teacher. She was an artist... don't think I got all her talent, but my daughter did. We'll see her again some day too when we get to glory.
I just found your blog and hope to visit often.

I suppose every family has a Muriel. My Uncle Bill was our Muriel. So sorry for your loss this weekend. I'm happy you have so many good memories of her. Her life was not in vain, and I hope that someone in the family carries her mantle.
Just call when you want to come for pizza! ;)
So sorry for your loss. She sounded like alot of fun! My hubs and I love to play tricks on one another, keeps the fun in a marriage with a busy family. Sounds like she will live on in your memories, how sweet that is.
Hugs to you.
