Waste not - want not

When I was growing up, my mom said a lot of things that have stuck with me through the years. Some of the sayings she picked up from her mom were 'haste makes waste', 'these are the best times of your life,' and the one I can still hear her yelling from the kitchen on laundry day 'don't go upstairs empty handed.'

So when I was on a cross stitch shop trip with Audrey and her sister in law Julie several years ago, I just had to pick up this chart. My framing friend Steve just finished it yesterday.

Oh, this is so me!

But, I did not grow up like that!!
I am an only child who was born into a well to do family. Believe me, when I say I am not bragging...

I am soo very different than my parents. It has taken them years to *understand* me!! :)

The fact that J and I heat our home by wood was enough to send my Mum over the edge!

Buy clothes at Thrift stores! GASP!

Purchase furniture at yard sales! The horrors!!

But, they came around!

Waste Not, Want Not is our Home Motto!

I love the cross stitch Mary. Yes that saying has been in my family forever as well. When I say these things to my kids, I can almost hear my mothers voice instead of mine coming from my mouth.

My grandmother grew up during the depression. Something like that leaves a mark on many generations afterwards because a penny saved is a penny earned! : )

I will always remember "many hands make light work". And I believe I have heard you utter...if not a thousand times..."don't go upstairs empty handed"! Like mother like daughter. :)

I certainly do remember, "Dont go upstairs empty handed!" I still think that when I'm at your house and see someone go upstairs.

Yeah those old sayings ring some bells. He did a beautiful job of the framing...

Received my love package today and love the things in it. The card with the lovely bouquet of flowers jumping out is nice. Everything bright and yellow for spring.
Thank you so much!
Have a great week my friend :)
