Peace and quiet

It's was a busy weekend, and today the house is finally quiet. We had 16 here for Thanksgiving dinner. It was not as crazy as I thought it would be. Everyone brought sides and desserts, so all I had to do was roast two turkeys, make two pumpkin pies, and bake homemade rolls. It seemed strange not to have a list to follow for getting everything ready on time, but I appreciated all the cooking help; and I think this is how Thanksgiving will be run from now on.

My Canadian daughter Mandy and her husband Shane came on Wednesday evening and brought Shane's two sisters for the holiday and weekend shopping. Every night we had the whole family for dinner and a Christmas movie. The Canadians had fun with the Black Friday shopping, too.

They left yesterday, and I had enough time to clean the floors and change the sheets for the next guests. John and Nash stayed with us last night so they could hunt today in the woods behind our place. Today is the first day of deer hunting season in Pennsylvania. Public schools are closed and for many workers, so are the shops and businesses. It's an unofficial holiday. They might as well be closed; no one will show up for work anyway. We live on a state road; and since Friday, the hunters have been making their way to the camps. The road is busy now at 5:00 a.m. for the hunters who don't have a camp. Tonight there will be a steady stream of traffic as some make their way back home.

I'm fixing breakfast for our guests plus Larry. Travis will be here shortly as well. Once the house is quiet again, I'm going to do a bit of cyber shopping and then head to the sewing room. My baskets of red and white scraps are starting to spill over, so I'm treating myself to a day of cutting and sewing a new quilt top. My pattern is Atkinson's 9-Patch Reunion. I've also rented a couple movies for myself - An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving and Avonlea Christmas. I loved the busy weekend, but I'm going to love treating myself today!

What a fun but exhausting long weekend you must have had! But knowing what I know about you...it was loved! Yes we have the deer hunters traveling our road too, and soon after daylight the return with the harvested deer strapped to their vehicles (this makes me sad)! I know it is needed but, how did they find them so soon after daylight?
I have projects planned too, actually headed to the sewing room soon to get started. Of course the cleaning out (mentioned in an earlier blog entry) is also happening, *as I find it I do what is needed with it ;>)*!

Have a wonderful day Mary, I will be thinking about you, busy at your project...sounds wonderful!

What a busy lady you have been Mary. Still isn't it great having family visit!
My husband left Sunday morning for Southern Ohio for his second round of deer hunting. He got an 8 point his firt time out but hopefully he will bag an even bigger one this trip.
Enjoy your day!
Hugs,
AMY

OK, let me get this right...you all close the schools for the first day of hunting season??? I'm cracking up at that!!! Well, my sister lives in Tucson and they close the schools there for 2 days for a rodeo so I guess anything's possible. I LOVE how you call your daughter and son-in-law "the Canadians" and I will bet you dollars for donuts your house was so full of fun and happiness and love this past weekend! What a great time - as always, I wish I would've been there! ♥

Avonlea Christmas - does it have anything to do with Anne of Avonlea/Green Gables? If so, that's certainly up my alley too. Sounds like a perfect plan to me! Enjoy your quilting & movie time! -Tammy
